Again.
The cigarette butt
Burning tender skin
And she screams from within
But still grits her teeth against the pain
This is the price she paid
To deserve the love of a man
Who never came back again.
It’s my mother I speak of
With dead hollow sockets for eyes
The woman that weeps into her pillow
After she puts me in bed at night
I feel her pain killing me inside
But I never dared to look into her eyes again.
I want to tell her I love her
And tell her to forget my daddy ever existed
I know she loves me, but I also know
I am a mistake, so I wonder
What if she could turn back time
Would she ever have me again?
I want to beg, Mommy please hold me
I’m scared, but it’ll break her down
Because every word that comes out of my mouth
Does her great invisible harm.
So I just keep quiet and listen through the papery thin walls
To make sure she’s still breathing, again and again.

Love, what is it?
Love, what is it?
Two red crisp autumn leaves falling together side by side,
Drifting and floating towards their ultimate demise?
Love, what is it?
The kiss of the first drop of rain,
And forgetting all those moments and years worth of pain?
Love, what is it?
Painful, yet unselfishly kind,
Like a song forgotten long ago, still clinging to your spine?
Love, what is it?
A soothingly haunting melody, running your fingers along,
The worn fret board of the guitar and playing an achingly beautiful song?
Love, what is it?
The beating of our hearts in unison,
Or just heading towards the inevitable train wreck, towards the collision?
Love, what is it?
Is it like Spongebob said once, letting someone hold a gun with the
Trigger ready to be pulled, to your head?
Love, what is it?
Is it getting drenched in the rain,
Just to catch a glimpse of your idea of perfection once again?
Love, I’ll tell you what that word means to me.
It’s the intermingling of our skin as I taste your scars and you taste mine.
It’s the intermingling of our hearts when I heal yours and you heal mine.
It’s the name that escapes your lips, and the caress that’s your sigh.
It’s my fingers moving along your spine, and your delicious moan.
It’s your lips searching mine, and my desperate groan.
It’s your tongue tracing my mouth and curling around my teeth.
Love is you and me, together forever
Sitting somewhere in the corner
And carving our names on trees
Like all those lovers that are destined to be.
